Spaghetti ice cream inventor: It was a Mannheimer
Nowhere is spaghetti ice cream as popular as in Germany. In the United States and many other countries, the cold dessert in the form of pasta with tomato sauce is unknown. We show you who is behind the invention of spaghetti ice cream.
Spaghetti ice cream: invented in Mannheim
The real inventor of spaghetti ice cream is Dario Fontanella. He is the son of an Italian immigrant and a native of Mannheim.
- In 1969, the 17-year-old boy had the fix idea to press ice cream through a spaetzle press.
- However, this only works if the ice has been snap frozen beforehand, otherwise only mud would come out. Fontanella put it in the freezer of the fridge for a few minutes.
- Garnished with white chocolate sprinkles and strawberry syrup, the first spaghetti ice cream was made in his father's ice cream parlor in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg.
- Since then, the delicious ice cream has been an integral part of any ice cream parlor in Germany from Munich to Hamburg.
- Today Dario Fontanella is over 60 years old and is a little annoyed that he had not applied for a patent for his invention at the time.
