Asparagus season: start and end of the season in Germany
The asparagus season in Germany is relatively short - much too short, as many lovers of fine vegetables find. We'll tell you the exact start and end of the season here.
Asparagus season: start and end of the season in Germany
The end of the asparagus season is definitely in Germany. The start of the asparagus season, however, is not so easy to determine.
- The asparagus places some demands on the climatic conditions. For this reason, the weather in spring largely indicates the beginning of the asparagus season.
- The asparagus needs a soil temperature of at least 12 degrees. In the past, the vegetables could not be harvested. As a rule, the asparagus season in Germany therefore begins in April.
- The asparagus farmers often accelerate the start of the harvest a little by spreading large black foils over the asparagus fields. This warms the floor a little earlier.
- Another trick to make the beginning of the asparagus season a little less dependent on the weather is heated floors. Of course, this effort is quite expensive. For this reason, the particularly early asparagus from Germany is significantly more expensive than the later one. If you have your own garden and are not afraid of asparagus pricking, it is worth growing the asparagus yourself.
- The end of the asparagus season is neither dependent on the weather nor is it delayed with little tricks. In Germany, the asparagus season ends punctually on June 24, as the asparagus needs a correspondingly long resting period to regenerate itself.
The season is the same for both, but there are interesting differences between the green and white asparagus.
