Speedport Hybrid: Connect an external LTE antenna - how it works
An external LTE antenna helps if the LTE reception at the Speedport Hybrid is poor. We will show you how to connect the antenna to your Speedport.
Connect the external LTE antenna to the Speedport Hybrid and check its function
- On the back of your Speedport Hybrid you will find the gold-plated connectors for an external LTE antenna under a fairly tight cover. You can find out which frequency (e.g. 800 MHz or 1800 MHz) your antenna must be designed for after entering your exact address on the information website on Telekom's network expansion.
- Connect the connecting cables of your LTE antenna to the gold-plated SMA connectors of the Speedport Hybrid. Look for a cable with a low attenuation factor that is as short as possible but as long as necessary so that the improved reception performance is not offset by the losses in the connection cable.
- In the hidden engineering menu of the router, you can check in the sub-item "LTE" how reception levels and quality (RSRP or RSRQ) improve through your external LTE antenna. You can also see there whether the external antenna is automatically recognized by the Speedport Hybrid. If not, follow the next steps.
If the Speedport Hybrid does not automatically recognize the external antenna
- Log in to the configuration menu of your router, which you can reach by entering //speedport.ip or the IP address 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of your web browser.
- Enter your device password. If you have not changed it, you will find it on the bottom of the Speedport Hybrid.
- Click on "Internet" at the top of the bar and then select "Internet connection" on the left side.
- In the "LTE reception strength and antenna" item, set the "LTE antenna used" to "External". Your Speedport Hybrid then uses your external LTE antenna.
