Speedport: Internet slow - you can do that
If the Internet on your Speedport router is slow, this problem can often be quickly resolved. A simple restart of the device can solve the problem. In this overview we will show you what else you can do.
Internet on the Speedport router is slow - check speed
To isolate the error, you should first measure your internet speed:
- Connect the computer directly to the router via LAN and then switch to speedtest.net. Now click on "Begin test" and your internet speed will be determined and displayed.
- Then compare this result with the contractually agreed speed. During the test, you should briefly switch off the firewall and the antivirus program.
- If there are deviations at the contractually agreed speed, the error is either due to the settings of the router or the provider.
Internet on the Speedport router is slow: How to fix the problem
- First check whether all cabling on the router is properly connected and intact.
- A defective cable can quickly cause this problem. Therefore, you should always replace a cable with a defect or broken cable immediately.
- Take a look at your router's settings. Make sure that you have entered the correct data here. We have listed the details on this page.
- In many cases, it can already help if you disconnect the Speedport router from the power supply for around 10 seconds.
- Note that the connection can be slow when there are many users on the network. This is usually the case if you have little bandwidth.
- In addition, downloads or uploads that are carried out via the network can slow down the speed. You should close all programs on your PC that you do not necessarily need.
- Some Internet providers regulate (throttle) the speed after a contractually specified data size has been reached. You can find more information about this in the contract documents.
- If you cannot resolve the problem with the router, contact Telekom customer service. They can then measure your connection and help you.
Internet on the Speedport router is slow - WLAN as the cause
Please note that a WLAN connection is generally slower than a wired LAN connection.
- If you use WLAN, you should also take a look at the correct settings here. Check to see if there is a downstream restriction that is throttling your connection.
- The range of the WLAN can also be easily expanded with a so-called WLAN repeater. All you have to do is plug it in and quickly surf the web despite the thick walls.
In the DSL comparison you will find an overview of all DSL providers and tariffs.
Tip: Use the old Fritzbox as a WiFi repeater
You may also have to update your Speedport company goods - we will show you the procedure on the next page.
