Speedwatching: what is it?
Speedwatching is the latest trend at Netflix & Co. We explain to you in this practical tip exactly what that is.
Speed Watching: Watch series at double speed
- Speedwatching goes back to the idea of speedreading and describes the behavior of watching series or films on streaming sites at double speed.
- Depending on the platform, 1.6 or 2.4 times the speed can also be set.
- The faster speed means that jokes and dialogues can be played without pause for thought. However, this does not make them lose the punch line.
- In addition, longer recordings become a very short intermezzo and there is more time for another episode.
Speed watch at Netflix and Amazon Prime
The integrated video players on most VoD sites, including Netflix and Amazon Prime, do not allow the playback speed to be increased manually. With a little trick, this also works on these pages. All you need is Google Chrome and a free extension for Google Chrome.
- Download Chrome for free and then start the browser program.
- Then add the free "Video Speed Controller" extension to your Google Chrome using the following link.
- In the window that appears, click the "Add to Chrome" button. After a short download time, you added the tool to your Chrome browser.
- Now go to Netflix or any other VoD site and choose the series you want to watch in Speedwatching mode.
- Make sure that you have deactivated Flash Player on Chrome, otherwise you will not be able to use the extension.
- Now a small gray number appears in the top left of the video player on the streaming page (see picture). By default, you can use the "D" and "S" keys to gradually increase or decrease the speed by 0.1.
- With "D" the playback speed is gradually increased and slowed down with "S". Real professionals look at the speed 2.0. To practice, you should try 1.4 or 1.6.
