In almost every program, you can call the "Save As" command with a key combination. We will show you which shortcut it is.
Keyboard shortcut for "Save As"
If you do not want to execute the "Save As" command with a right-click with the mouse, you can do it with the push of a button:
- Press the [Ctrl] + [S] keys on your keyboard at the same time.
- A small window then opens in almost every program.
- Here you can give the file a name and then save it.
- Tip: Try it out right now. You can also save something here in the browser.
- On Mac, use the shortcut [cmd] + [S].
Microsoft Office: Save as with a key combination
- If you use programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint or Excel, you must use a different key combination. Simply tap the [F12] key to "Save As".
- You will find [F12] in the top row on your keyboard. As a rule, the key is located diagonally to the left above the Enter key. On a laptop, you may also need to hold down the [Fn] key at the bottom left.
- The key combination is particularly useful if you have already saved the document. With [Ctrl] + [S] the saved file is simply overwritten, with [F12] "Save as" is opened again.
- On Mac, the keyboard shortcut for Save As is [cmd] + [Shift] + [S].
