Delete saves from Steam Cloud - Here's how
This guide shows you how to delete saved files from the Steam Cloud.
Steam cloud: delete saves
Unfortunately, there is still no option in Steam with which you can simply delete your saves from the cloud. With a small workaround it works:
- Open Steam and enter the name of the game in the search field that you want to save from the cloud.
- When you click on the game, a URL appears under the top menu that ends with a number combination.
- Open the "Userdata" folder in the main Steam directory. There is usually only one other order here, which you also have to open.
- Now locate the folder with the number combination from step 2. Open it and then the folder "Remote". Exit Steam using the icon on the taskbar.
- Open Windows PowerShell and enter the following command including quotation marks: clc "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ userdata \ 123456 \ 654321 \ remote \ *"
- Note that you can adjust the file path accordingly so that your Steam installation directory is selected. The number combinations can be found in the respective folders on your PC.
- Change to the folder from step 3 and then delete the "remotecache.vdf" file.
- Restart Steam and open the game whose cloud files you want to delete. An error message appears that shows a conflict with the saved files. Repeat step 7 and also delete all files in the "remote" folder.
- In Steam, select the "Upload to Steam Cloud" option. As soon as the game starts, stop it immediately.
- Right click on the game in Steam and select Properties. Under "Updates", uncheck "Activate Steam Cloud synchronization for your game". Then exit Steam.
- Delete the folder you specified in step 4 using the number combination.
- Finally, start Steam again. Your cloud saves are now completely deleted.
