For Monopoly, everyone has their own rules. But there is also an official game guide. We present them to you and give tips for exciting Monopoly rounds.
Monopoly: The rules of the game
There are now numerous variants of the popular board game. We explain the rules of the game for the base game. You can play Monopoly with two to eight players.
- At the start of the game, each player receives a figure and 2 × 500 euros, 4 × 100 euros, 1 × 50 euros, 1 × 20 euros, 2 × 10 euros, 1 × 5 euros and 5 × 1 euros. So everyone has 1, 500 euros in starting capital. A player must agree to run the bank.
- The event and community cards are placed face down in a stack on the corresponding space on the board.
- All players start in the "Los" field. It is pulled clockwise.
- It is rolled with two dice. The player whose turn it is may move as many spaces as the total of the dice rolled. If he rolls a pasch, he may then roll and draw again. If a player rolls a pasch three times in a row, he must go to the "prison" field.
- If a player lands on a street with a train and the street does not yet belong to any other player, he can buy the street and receives the ownership card. If other players end up on the street afterwards, they have to pay rent to the owner. The amount of the rent is specified on the ownership card. If he does not want or cannot buy the street, for example because his finances are insufficient, the street will be auctioned and the other players can bid on it.
- If a player has all streets of one color, he can build houses on them - every time he comes onto the field, but only one house each time. The price for building a house is also set on the ownership card. If the owner has built four houses on one street, he can build a hotel. Every house or hotel increases the rent that another player has to pay. A player can also take out mortgages on their houses if they need money. The conditions are again set on the ownership card.
- The train stations, the electricity and the waterworks can also be bought. However, you cannot build houses here. Roads can also be sold to the bank again, but only as long as no houses are built. If this is the case, the houses must first be sold. A sale, like a purchase, is only possible if you land on the corresponding field.
- If a player lands on an event or community space, he must reveal the top card of the corresponding stack and follow the instructions.
- There are also fields with special taxes or duties on the field. If you land on such a field, the corresponding amount must be paid to the bank.
- If a player lands on the prison field by rolling the dice, nothing happens. He is then only a visitor and is allowed to move on undisturbed in the next round. However, if a player lands on the "Go to prison" field, throws a triple three times or draws a corresponding card, he must go to the prison field and sit there for the time being.
- In order to be released from prison, the player must either use the "You are released from prison" card - if he has such a card - roll a dice or pay 50 euros to the bank.
- If a player passes the "Los" field, he receives 200 euros each time. He doesn't have to hit the field, it's enough if it happens.
- A player is eliminated from the game as soon as he goes bankrupt. This is the case when he no longer has enough money to pay rent or taxes, for example.
Monopoly: goal of the game and tips
As you have probably already noticed by the rules, Monopoly is about accumulating as much property as possible and thus increasing the income. If you run out of money at first, you are eliminated. Whoever remains until the end has won the game. So the strategy should focus on what is most profitable.
- If possible, buy the orange streets. They are not far from the prison. There is a high chance that an inmate will land on a street of this color after being released.
- See that they purchase all streets of one color. Only then can you build and increase your income.
- When you build, you build three or four houses on each of the streets. Avoid hotels. There are only 32 houses in total at Monopoly: if these are on your streets, the opponents can no longer build. However, if you build a hotel, you have to give up your houses for it and the opponents can build with it.
