Microsoft presented its new console XBOX ONE X at Gamescom. In this practical tip, we explain how to transfer games and settings.
How to transfer games and settings from XBOX ONE to XBOX ONE X
There are essentially two ways to transfer the corresponding content to your XBOX ONE X.
- The former is transmission via an external hard drive, the latter via the local network.
- Connect an appropriate data carrier to your XBOX ONE for the route with an external hard drive. Warning: The hard disk must be formatted in the following step. Therefore, back up all stored data otherwise!
- As soon as the hard drive is connected, a window appears in the main menu informing about the connection of a storage medium and the necessary formatting. Click on "Next", the formatting should inevitably start.
- After formatting, you can now copy games and apps to your hard drive.
- To do this, go to the "Games & Apps" tab, search for a game that you want to broadcast and then press the Start button.
- In the pop-up menu that appears, select the "Manage Game" option and then "Copy". You define the connected hard drive as the storage location. Confirm with one click.
- This is how you proceed with all games and apps that you want to transfer to your new console.
- Once everything has been copied to the hard drive, switch off your XBOX ONE, remove the storage medium and connect it to the XBOX ONE X.
- A corresponding note should also appear here, but formatting is not necessary.
- In the "Games & Apps" menu you can then select the data carrier from which the entries should be displayed. Click here on your external hard drive.
- Now you can select the games and apps that are on the hard drive one after the other and click on the start button, "Manage game" and then "Copy" to transfer all information to your new XBOX ONE X that you have on it Now determine the destination of the copy process.
- You can also transfer your settings in the same way, which you simply transfer to the external hard drive and then select on the new console for copying.
- If you do not have a hard disk at hand, you can also transfer the data via the local home network. How exactly this process takes place is not yet clear. Microsoft has not yet given any more detailed information.
- It seems likely that the new XBOX ONE X will recognize when an older console is on the home network and automatically offers to transfer the content without downloading every single game again. Under certain circumstances, however, this could take significantly longer than the hard disk path.
- Last but not least, your games and game progress are also linked to your Microsoft account, which you inevitably need to put the XBOX ONE X into operation. This also gives you access to your games and their save status.
- Do this, but you will need to download all games to the console again.
