You can not only steam or cooked spinach, you can also eat it raw. Raw spinach can be processed very well in salads. But there are a few things you should be aware of. Because not every variety is suitable for eating raw.
It's best to eat young spinach raw
A wide variety of dishes can be conjured up from spinach. The leafy greens are not only particularly tasty, but also very healthy. Basically, you can eat spinach leaves raw. Young leaf spinach is best suited for this.
- Spinach is called differently. Leaf spinach is young spinach that is not yet fully grown. That is why it has a mild taste. Young spinach leaves can be found in stores and markets from March to May.
- Winter and root spinach, on the other hand, are types of spinach that are already fully grown and have a strong taste. These varieties are suitable for steaming and cooking.
- Spinach is not toxic and can be eaten raw. Because of the numerous nitrates that are generally found in vegetables, you should only consume small amounts. Especially the stems contain a lot of nitrate, better remove them.
- Before preparing young spinach leaves, you should definitely remove the stems and sort out bad leaves.
- Wash the spinach thoroughly if you want to eat it raw. Then dab the leaves well with a cloth.
- Spinach leaves can be easily processed as a simple salad. To do this, for example, put the leaves in the salad instead of ordinary salad leaves.
Spinach and mushroom salad
For a spinach and mushroom salad you need 150 grams of fresh leaf spinach, 40 grams of mushrooms, 150 g of ham and a hard-boiled egg. For the dressing, take 50 grams of sheep's cheese, a tablespoon of cream, half a teaspoon of mustard and dried thyme, and three tablespoons of olive oil.
- First prepare the spinach leaves by removing the stems and washing the leaves thoroughly.
- Now cut the ham into strips and fry them. Dice the previously hard-boiled egg.
- Then cut the mushrooms into slices.
- Put everything in a bowl and prepare the dressing.
- To do this, mix all the ingredients for the dressing and season it with salt and pepper.
- Add the dressing to the salad and mix everything together.
