Splitscreen in Windows 8 - how it works
Windows 8 offers a lot of hidden functions, such as the split-screen view. We'll show you how to use this feature.
Windows 8: Apps in split-screen display
If you want to have two apps displayed on the screen at the same time, use the split-screen function of Windows 8. For example, you can follow the latest news as in our example and also have an overview of the stock exchange data.
- Open the Metro view of Windows 8 and start an app on the tile.
- Move the mouse to the top of the screen until the hand symbol appears.
- Now hold down the right mouse button and don't drag down to close the app, but to the right. If a black vertical bar appears, you can release the mouse button. The app now fills the right third of the screen.
- Switch to the Metro view using the Windows key and start a second app using the associated tile. This is now automatically displayed in the free space on the screen. In the game screen you now have both apps in parallel in the view.
- You can close the apps individually by pulling them down as usual.
Windows 8.1: even more split-screen convenience
In Windows 8, you can have a maximum of two apps displayed on the split screen. In addition, the ratio is set at 70:30, a change in size is not planned. Windows 8.1, Microsoft has expanded the function.
- In Windows 8.1, you can load up to three apps on the split screen.
- You are free to choose the size: You can now set any size with the dividing bar.
So that you can use the full function of the split screen, we will show you how to update from Windows 8 to 8.1.
