Use Spotify on Google Home: Here's how
You can also use Google Home in Germany since the beginning of the month. In this practical tip, we explain how to use Spotify on the smart assistant.
Spotify on Google Home - Backgrounds
Similar to Amazon's Echo (Dot), Google Home can now also be used with "Spotify Connect".
- So you can control your music via voice.
- At the same time, Google Home also appears in the Spotify app under "Available devices", so that you can connect directly to it as a playback device.
- In contrast to the Echo (Dot), you can also play music via voice input via Google Home if you are not a Spotify Premium subscriber.
- In this case, Google Home offers you a 7-day free trial period. However, you are then also forced to complete the paid subscription in order to continue using Spotify via Google Home.
- "Spotify Connect" is reserved for premium subscribers as specified by Spotify. Music control via the app is therefore not possible as part of the free use.
Use Spotify via Google Home - The facility
In principle, setting up Spotify on the Google Home is straightforward.
- If you already have a Spotify account that you use with the same email address as your Google Home, you will automatically be offered to link the two accounts.
- Otherwise, you will be asked to create a new Spotify account. You should ideally do this on a screen using the registration process on the homepage.
- At the moment, new subscribers are even getting a free 60-day test phase, which is certainly a good opportunity to thoroughly test the functionality of Google Home.
- After creating the account, switch to the Google Home app you already need to set up your Google Home.
- Within the app, tap the menu on the top left and select the settings.
- Then tap "Accounts", "Spotify" and "Link Account" one after the other.
- Then select "Register" and enter your Spotify login details. At this point you can also create a new account by tapping "Register", provided this has not been done before.
- Now select "Okay" to confirm the entries. Your Spotify account is now linked to your Google Home.
- However, please note that you can only connect one account to Google Home at a time.
- If you use Spotify as the default source of your music, you can also set this for Google Home.
- Either Google Home offers you this option automatically, alternatively open the settings in the Google Home app again, tap on "Music" and then select "Spotify" to set the streaming service as the default playback source.
Control Spotify via Google Home
After successful setup, you can control Spotify with Google Home in two different ways:
- On the one hand, as already mentioned above, you can simply select your Google Home in the Spotify app or the corresponding application on your computer under "Available devices".
- The music you play on Spotify is then automatically streamed to Google Home.
- Alternatively, you can also communicate with Google Home to play music.
- The following commands are available: "Play [song name by artist name]" to play a song // "Stop" to stop the music // "Pause" to stop the music // "What is currently playing?" to hear which song is being played // "set volume to [level]" to control the volume //
