Install Spotify Connect on the Raspberry Pi - Here's how
The Raspberry Pi is technologically a real all-rounder. This practical tip shows you how you can use Spotify Connect on it.
Spotify Connect on the Raspberry Pi: the preparations
As a premium subscriber to the music streaming service Spotify, Spotify Connect is particularly practical. After all, you can play every imaginable song on your home sound system.
- In order to use the Raspberry Pi as such a receiver, some preparations are necessary, but overall the installation is not too complicated.
- First of all you have to apply for a so-called Spotify Appkey.
- Simply log in with your Spotify login data on this page, fill out the short form (simply select "Volumio" as subject and content) and get your key a few moments later by clicking on "My application keys" on " Binary "click.
- Save the downloaded file so that you can easily find it later, for example on the desktop.
- In addition, your Raspberry Pi must have Volumio installed.
Install Spotify Connect on the Raspberry Pi: The installation
After you have received and downloaded an appkey, it is now time to actually install Spotify.
- First you have to log in with Putty on the Raspberry Pi with the user name "root" and the password "volumio".
- Now it's about adding the following commands to Putty: curl -O //spotify-connect-web.s3-website.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/spotify-connect-web.sh chmod u + x spotify- connect-web.sh ./spotify-connect-web.sh install
- In the next step, the appkey must be copied to the Raspberry Pi.
- At the same time, you should download this fix file for the correct volume control. To do this, click on "Clone or Download" on the right side of the website and then on "Download ZIP". You must unzip this file after downloading and ideally add it to the Appkey file on the desktop.
- To load both files on the Raspberry Pi, the program WinSCP is recommended.
- Start the program, enter the IP address of the Raspberry Pi, as well as the login data specified above.
- Find the following folder in the sidebar: / root / spotify-connect-web-chroot / usr / src / app / In this window you must now copy all (!) Files from the extracted fix file and the appkey file,
- In order for Spotify to start automatically on the Raspberry Pi when you want to use it, you should add an autostart entry via putty.
- To do this, open the autostart entries in Putty with the following command: sudo nano /etc/rc.local Then insert the Spotify start command: sudo /root/spotify-connect-web.sh --name Volumio --username xyz - -password 123456 --bitrate 320 &> / dev / null 2> & 1 This entry must (!) precede the entry "exit 0", otherwise the autostart will not work. You must also enter your user name and password in the appropriate places in the command.
- Now press the key combination [CTRL] + [O] to save the entries. You can then exit the editor.
- The Raspberry Pi should now be displayed in your Spotify app under "Available devices".
