Commercial use of Spotify - you need to know that
Spotify has already become a radio replacement for many users. But in commercial use, Spotify differs from classic radio. We show you what is allowed and what is not.
Commercial use of Spotify: All important information
If you use Spotify commercially and, for example, stream it in your shop, you have to set up the following:
- First GEMA: GEMA protects the copyrights of musicians in Germany. Anyone who publicly plays copyrighted material in a trade must pay a fee to GEMA.
- For this reason, many shops use radio or GEMA-free music. Commercial use of Spotify is prohibited because no license has been granted to Spotify. Spotify has nevertheless found a way to make Spotify available to companies.
- Via the subsidiary company SoundtrackYourBrand, you can also use Spotify music commercially in the office, bars, restaurants and Co. For 35 euros per month you get access to several playlists that are constantly updated. You no longer have to worry about GEMA fees. However, you cannot simply search for and play individual songs.
