Spotify is constantly expanding its range. Latest feature: Mix tapes specially tailored to the listener. In this article, we will clarify whether you can save them offline and listen to them without a permanent internet connection.
Offline mode: Listen to Spotify mix tapes without internet
For some time now you have been able to find the new category "Your Mixtapes" in Spotify. Here, the music streaming service creates up to six individual playlists that are fully tailored to your individual taste. The content of your mix tapes changes the more you use Spotify. This is how the algorithms can continue to personalize your mixtapes.
- Unlike playlists, which you can easily save offline, the songs from the mixtapes cannot currently be called up without an internet connection.
- Even if you download all the songs in your mixtape individually, you still have no access to the playlists. The reason for this is probably the algorithm used: In order for Spotify to be able to tailor your mixtapes perfectly to you, it must process all the songs you hear and use them to calculate the playlist. For this to work, there must be a connection to the Spotify server.
- In addition, your mixtape only expands when you hear it. You can influence the upcoming songs yourself by either liking or removing the current song.
- However, it would be technically possible to download at least part of the mixtape. So far, such a function is missing in all Spotify programs and apps. It remains to be seen whether the developers will react in the near future. But one thing seems certain: If it is possible to download mixtapes at some point, it will probably be reserved for premium users.
Workaround: save Spotify mixtapes offline using a trick
With a premium account at Spotify, the playlists you have created can be saved offline. You can take advantage of this and download at least some of your mixtapes.
- It is best to open Spotify on your PC. The trick also works in the apps, but it takes a lot longer there.
- Then click on the "New Playlist" button on the left and select the name of your mix tape, for example.
- Now switch to the "Your Mixtape" tab and select your desired mixtape.
- You will now see a total of 15 songs that you can mark on the PC and drag into the playlist you just created. On the smartphone, you have to mark each song individually and add it to the playlists.
- If you listen briefly to your mixtape, other suitable songs will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can also insert these back into your playlist.
- Finally, download the playlist as usual via the context menu and "Download". This means that at least part of your music is available offline.
