Convert speech to text directly in Word
With Microsoft Dictate you can dictate your text directly in Word and even have it translated.
- Download Microsoft Dicate (free) and install the file.
- Then open Word as usual. Here you will find the new tab "Dictation".
- If you select it, there is a microphone tile with the word "Start" underneath. Next to it is the language selection.
- Select "German" for the language and then press "Start".
- Now you can speak your text slowly and clearly. It then appears directly in Word.
Convert speech to text with "Speak a Message"
- The free Speak A Message software records your text and then transcribes it.
- To do this, click on "Record" after the installation, speak all your text and then click on "Stop".
- Under the record button you will find the function "Transcribe"> "Speech to text" next to the recorded files.
- You can then copy the finished text and paste it into Word. But you should look over the text again because mistakes often creep in.
Convert speech to text without software
You do not need any additional software under Windows 8 and 10:
- Click the Windows button and enter "Speech Recognition". Then open the hit that contains a reference to the Control Panel. Alternatively, you can search for it directly in the Control Panel under "Ease of Operation".
- Then select "Start Speech Recognition" and follow the setup wizard for the first time.
- Once the speech recognition setup has been completed, open it and you can now dictate your text in a Word document.
- To do this, start the speech recognition by clicking on the microphone button and immediately see every dictated word in the Word document.
Convert speech to text using the app
If you want to dictate texts on the go and output them in writing, you can use good apps:
- Android and iOS have already integrated their own speech recognition. When you open the Notes app and start typing, you can start speech recognition using the microphone icon.
- Alternatively, you can use the free Dragon Dictation app, which is available for Android and iOS.
Tip: If the speech recognition with Siri on Android smartphones does not work so well, you can try a different speech recognition.
