Having your own SQL server has many advantages - provided it can be reached at any time. However, this only works if you enable the correct ports. We reveal what these are in this article.
Host the SQL server yourself - you must open these ports
- A firewall protects your network and the devices connected to it from unwanted external access. This works, among other things, by only opening certain ports through which data packets can be sent.
- If you want to operate an SQL server at home, you must open the required ports in your firewall so that the communication between your server and computers can take place on the Internet.
- Microsoft's SQL server operates by default on TCP port 1433. Monitoring runs via UPD port 1434.
- You must now enable these ports in the firewall or on your router to allow communication between devices on the Internet and the SQL server.
