SSD 2.5 or 3.5: You need to know that
With an HDD hard drive you are always spoiled for choice between 2.5 or 3.5 inches, with SSD hard drives this question arises rather rarely. We'll tell you what the sizes are all about.
SSD in 2.5 or 3.5 inches: which is better?
SSD hard drives are offered almost exclusively in 2.5 inch format. 3.5 inch models make no technical sense, but size is in demand.
- Since the components in PC and laptop are becoming flatter and the user wants them to be as small as possible, the SSD hard drives are mainly available in 2.5 inch format. Since it is a flash memory, a larger hard drive in the 3.5 inch format would not make any technical difference.
- Another reason for the 3.5 mm SSDs soon to become extinct is the m.2 SSD. These are even smaller SSDs that are visually reminiscent of a memory stick. To use it you need a free PCI Express connection.
- Even 1000 GB fit easily on a 2.5 inch SSD. In theory, a 3.5 inch SSD could store even more data, but a 2.5 inch SSD with 4000 GB storage space currently costs around 6, 000 euros.
- Since desktop computers in particular are not designed for the small SSD hard drives in 2.5 inch format, 3.5 inch SSDs seem to make sense. There are suitable 3.5 inch adapters for little money.
In the next practical tip, we will show you the difference between an SSD and an SSHD.
