The computer is actually still quite fit, but the new SSD hard drive is not recognized and is not available at all when the system is started? We have a few tips for you on how to repair your disk.
SSD hard drive is not recognized - you can do that
You should read our practical tip on installing SSD hard drives in advance to properly connect the SSD. Both data and power cables must be firmly seated on the associated connections. If the hard drive is still not recognized afterwards, you should try the following tips:
- First, you should try another SATA port on your computer motherboard. Many computers have two on your motherboard. The connection to which you connected the SSD hard disk may be defective. Another solution can be to try other cables for connecting the hard drive.
- Also make sure you have the latest BIOS update for your motherboard. Most necessary controller driver updates are submitted later via BIOS updates.
- If the SSD hard drive is still not recognized, you should try to deactivate the AHCI in the BIOS. To do this, you have to call the BIOS and switch the AHCI mode to "Disabled". The technology is supposed to ensure smooth cooperation between the system and SATA controllers, but at least with older boards, AHCI does the opposite.
- Then start your computer normally, should the SSD hard drive be recognized without any problems.
Initialize SSD
If the disk is new, the PC may recognize the disk but no drive letter has yet been assigned. Therefore, check whether the hard disk has been initialized.
- To do this, call up the disk management. If you recognize the size of the SSD hard drive you are looking for there without opening a dialog box and only one drive letter is displayed, the solution is simple.
- Right-click on the hard drive to open the context menu. Select "Change drive letter and paths here
"and then" Add ". Select the option" Assign the following drive letter "and confirm with" OK ".
- However, if a dialog box appears asking you about the MBR or GPT partition style when you start Disk Management, select "GPT".
- The hard drive you are looking for is displayed with a black bar and the name "Not assigned". Call the context menu again with a right click, click on "New simple volume
"and then two times on" Next ".
- In the following you will assign a drive letter again. You will then be asked to format the hard drive. You can accept the default settings.
If your hard drive is now recognized, you can tweak the SSD hard drive with a few tweaks. You can read more about this in the next practical tip.
