Establish an SSH connection under Mac OS X - how it works
In this practical tip we will tell you how to set up an SHH connection (Secure Shell) under a Mac. This network protocol is often required to control and maintain servers.
How to start an SHH connection with a Mac
In this guide, we explain step by step how to set up an SSH connection to a server under Mac OS X.
- First start the terminal. You can find this in the system subfolder "Utilities".
- If you want to log in via the standard port 22 and with the same user name as your Mac, establish the SHH connection with the following command: "ssh 192.168.0.60". In this case you would connect to the server with the IP "192.168.0.60".
- If you use another port or want to log in under a different user name, use the following command: "ssh 192.168.0.60 -l username -p 222". In this case you would connect to the server with the IP 192.168.2.30 via port 222 with the user name "username".
- Alternatively, the following notation works: "ssh -p 222".
