Starbound: create server - how it works
If you want to create your own server for Starbound, you have to consider a few things. We'll show you step by step how to set up a multiplayer server for your friends.
Step 1: Enable ports for starbound servers in the router
- First of all you have to enable a port in your router. This is the only way to start the Starbound Server on your PC later.
- This is port 21025. The protocol used is TCP.
- In the following practical tips you will find instructions for the FritzBox, EasyBox and the Speedport.
Step 2: create a starbound server
- Press the [Windows] and [E] keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens.
- Navigate here to the path "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Starbound".
- Then open the "starbound.config" file by right-clicking with the editor or similar software.
- In line 16 you will find the item "serverPasswords". Remove the default passwords, but not the quotes.
- Insert your individual password between the first two quotes. A simple password like "abc" is enough, it just shouldn't be the default password.
- Repeat this process for the "default_configuration.config" file in the "assets" folder.
- Then open the "win32" folder and start the "starbound_server.exe" file.
- Wait a moment for the server to be fully set up.
- Then you will find the server IP, port 21025 and your own IP address in the middle of the text.
- Make a note of the server IP and leave the window open.
Step 3: join your own starbound server
- Start Starbound and switch to multiplayer mode.
- Select a character and then enter the server IP and password.
- Your own starbound server is loaded via the "Join Server" button. Your friends do the same.
