StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void - All innovations at a glance
With Legacy of the Void, the final of StarCraft 2 is finally released. There are again many new products. We explain all changes from the story to the multiplayer to individual units.
New in StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void: The Protoss campaign
Now that Wings of Liberty has focused on Raynor and the Terrans and then allowed Kerrigan to lead the swarm, you now stand as a protoss against the threat posed by Amon.
- This story was already introduced in the previous parts, but you can still play Legacy of the Void without its predecessors.
- Zeratul will appear, but is not the focus of the single player story as originally planned. Instead, it's primarily about Artanis.
- An essential part of the story is the attempt to reunite the fragmented Protos society in order to compete against Amon together.
- Artanis also has a flying base on which you can manage upgrades between missions and advance the story. It is the Protoss ark "Spear of the Adun".
- Unlike Kerrigan, Legacy of the Void will not have such a powerful hero unit that accompanies every mission. The Protoss win through their common heroic appearance.
- You can also unlock many units as part of the campaign. There are also some classics from the old StarCraft games that will not be available in multiplayer mode.
Legacy of the Void: New StarCraft II multiplayer modes - Archon mode, allied commanders and automated tournaments
Legacy of the Void brings a lot for the single player, but there is also a lot going on in multiplayer. There are three places to upgrade:
- Legacy of the Void introduces automated tournaments where you can fight for rankings every day. If you're good enough, you might even compete with world-class StarCraft players who compete for glory in international tournaments.
- The protoss is all about the Archon mode, in which two ghosts merge into one. Together with an ally, you control a single base and can do even more quickly. You compete against another Archon.
- "Allied commanders", on the other hand, is a purely cooperative mode. Here you play with an ally against the computer. Both choose one of many StarCraft heroes with special talents and use their armies to solve challenging scenarios.
New units in StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void
Every StarCraft expansion also includes new units that turn the multiplayer mode upside down. Legacy of the Void also includes six new products.
- The Protoss-Adebt is a light ranged combat specialist that can do enormous damage to other light units. Thanks to their psi transfer, those in the scout and move extremely flexibly.
- Protoss disruptors are large, slow spheres that make themselves invulnerable for a short time and can then release the stored energy in a violent nova. The unit works extremely well against narrow opposing groups.
- The Terran Cyclone is a powerful attack drone that can target and move an enemy under heavy fire with its targeting system. This works especially well against slow opponents like Ultralisks.
- With the falcons, the Terrans get another transformer unit. The Falcons use rocket launchers against air units and to destroy ground positions afterwards they turn into heavy artillery.
- The Zerg Ravager is a useful ranged unit that can fire artillery shells in addition to regular attacks. These are particularly useful because they can destroy the Protoss' force fields.
- Schleicher already knows StarCraft veterans from the first games. This unit will bury itself and then cause massive damage over a long distance. However, they are all the more vulnerable above earth.
StarCraft 2: Also novelties for veterans in Legacy of the Void
In addition to the new units, StarCraft 2 veterans will also see many changes.
- Above all, the attack speed was generally reduced and the damage for it increased. The visibility has also changed across the board.
- In addition, many units have been revised in detail and equipped with new skills.
- With the Protoss, for example, the Immortal Shield is no longer passive, but an active ability. The oracle may now set stasis traps that temporarily disable units.
- With the Zerg, for example, the abuser has been given the ability to deal much damage to buildings over time. The viper, on the other hand, is allowed to infect flying enemies with parasites that cause great damage to the area.
- For Terrans, siege tanks can now also be transported in siege mode to enable new flexible tactics. Heavy cruisers are also becoming more agile and can jump anywhere on the map - even without a view.
