Steam: Fix Error 53 - Here's how
When launching a Steam game, error 53 can occur in rare cases. This usually appears when the Steam servers are busy. However, you can often find the cause on your computer.
McAfee triggers Steam error 53
Typically, Steam error 53 is triggered by the McAfee antivirus software. Therefore, deactivate the real-time scanner and try again. If the error persists, you should follow these tips:
- In addition to McAfee, other virus scanners and software firewalls can also be responsible for the error. Temporarily disable such programs.
- If that doesn't help, you should reset the "ClientRegistry.blob". To do this, close Steam and change to the installation directory. Find the file "ClientRegistry.blob" and rename it. The next time Steam starts, it will recreate the document without errors.
- If the error persists, the Steam servers are currently busy. In this case, you will have to wait a while for the developers to fix the problem.
- If Steam doesn't work after several hours, you should contact Steam support.
