Steam: Make a trade offer - how it works
On Steam you can make a trade offer to your friends and exchange games, items and trading cards. In this article, we show you exactly how this works and what requirements you have to meet for it.
Make a trading offer on Steam - requirements
In order to trade on Steam, both your account and your offer must meet some conditions:
- Content: You can currently only trade items and trading cards from games. Steam gifts that you have not yet activated can also be exchanged in this way. However, games that have already been activated or mere codes cannot be passed on.
- Account: In order to trade gifts, you must have a Steam-trusted account. To do this, buy an item in the Steam Store and wait 30 days. If there are no payment problems during this time, your account is considered trustworthy and you can get started.
- Steam Guard: The Steam Guard must also be activated for more than 15 days before you can trade.
- Period: Your trading offers expire automatically after two weeks, unless your counterpart accepts or rejects them.
Make a trading offer on Steam - Here's how
If your profile meets all the necessary requirements, you can submit your first trading offers. That's how it's done:
- Start Steam and click on "View Friends List" in the lower right corner.
- Right-click on the friend you want to trade with.
- In the context menu, select the "Invite to trade" option.
- As soon as your counterpart accepts the invitation to trade, you can start: Now select the item to be traded and drag it into the trading window.
- Finally activate the tick below and click on "Execute trade".
Cancel trading offer on Steam - Here's how
If you accidentally made an incorrect trade offer or later changed your mind, you can withdraw your offer. However, this only works as long as your counterpart has not yet reacted to it. After that, the exchange is final and cannot be undone.
- Start Steam and click on your account name above.
- Select the entry "Trading offers" in the right column of your profile. There you can now see all active trading transactions.
- Select the desired offer and click on "Cancel trade" in the lower right corner.
