Set up and use Steam Mobile Authenticator - how it works
With the Steam Mobile Authenticator, you can set up and use two-factor authentication for the Steam login. We'll show you how it's done.
Instructions: Set up Steam Mobile Authenticator
The Steam Mobile Authenticator generates a code on your mobile phone for each login in your Steam account. You can only log in to your account with a password and code if you have your smartphone. It is almost impossible for hackers to take over your Steam account.
- First download the free app Steam Mobile for iOS or Android.
- If you log in to your account, you will receive a code by email the first time you use it.
- Enter the code and a name for the smartphone. If you confirm your entry, you can use the app.
- Open the menu in the top left and select the category "Steam Guard".
- You can enter and confirm your phone number using the "Add authenticator" button.
- Now enter the code from the SMS in the app to confirm your phone number.
- You should definitely write down the recovery code now displayed or save it with a screenshot.
- The Steam Mobile Authenticator is now set up and ready to use.
Use Steam Mobile Authenticator when logging in
- Open the Steam app on your smartphone and you will find the five-digit code in the "Steam Guard" category. If you are not logged in, you will find the code on the login screen.
- To test the login, open Steam on your computer and click on "Change user" under "Steam" at the top left. You can then log out and log in again.
- If you log in with your password, you will then be asked for the code. This is regenerated every 30 seconds in the app. If you enter the current code, you will be logged into Steam as usual.
