Steam: game suddenly stops - what to do about stuttering?
If a Steam game suddenly stops, there are several possible reasons for this. We have put together tips for you against jerking in this practical tip.
Playing suddenly lies under Steam - you can do that
Outdated drivers may be responsible for suddenly stuttering games on Steam.
- Make sure that you have installed the latest driver for your graphics card. You can either find out using Windows Update or the manufacturer's website.
- An update for Steam may also be available. To find out, you should restart the Steam client once, as all updates will be installed at startup.
- In addition to the latest graphics drivers, you also need the latest version of DirectX and possibly Adobe Flash Player.
- If there is only one game on Steam, it may also be due to the game itself. In this case, you have to wait until the manufacturer provides an update.
Further measures against lying on Steam
- Your antivirus software may be blocking the game. You should therefore test your antivirus program off when you start the game.
- You should also make sure that the game is noted as an exception in your firewall.
- Insufficient free space on the hard drive can also cause the game to jerk. Uninstall unused programs and run a scan with the freeware CCLeaner to free your PC from data junk.
- Reinstalling the game could also help. Open Steam and right click on the affected game. Select the "Clear game data" option here. You will then need to download and install the game again.
