In order to always get the latest patches and features, you should update your games in Steam. In this article, we reveal how this works manually and how you can even install updates automatically.
Steam: Update games manually
Steam usually updates your games automatically. Therefore, there is basically no function that you can use to manually check for updates. New patches can still be installed with a little trick.
- To do this, start Steam on your PC and click on "Library".
- Then right-click on the game you want to update.
- In the context menu, select the "Properties" option.
- In the new window, switch to the "Local files" tab and select "Check game files for errors".
- Steam then scans your saved files for errors. If a new patch is available, it will be downloaded and the old files will be overwritten automatically.
- Repeat these steps for all games you want to update.
Steam: Update games automatically
As already mentioned, available updates for your games are automatically downloaded and installed by default. If that doesn't work for a game, you can adjust the settings.
- To do this, switch back to the "Library" and right-click on the desired game.
- Here you select the "Properties" option again.
- In the "Updates" tab, in the "Automatic updates" section, select the entry "Always keep this game up to date".
- If you save your settings with "Close", your game will be automatically updated in the future.
