Steam: Find out the game version - how it works
By default, Steam updates your games automatically. If you want to find out the respective game version, this is not easily possible via Steam. In this practical tip, we will show you how to find out the installed version of the game.
How to find out the game version on Steam:
- Open the folder where your Steam games have been installed. By default, the path is: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common.
- Then select the game folder you want to find the version of the game for.
- Next, locate the folder that contains the exe file that starts the game. This usually bears the name of the game. Windows types the exe as an application. For example, you can find the "Batman Arkham City" exe file under the following path: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Batman Arkham City GOTY \ Binaries \ Win32)
- When you find the exe file, right click on it and select "Properties".
- Then click on the "Details" tab in the properties window.
- In the description you will find the currently installed version of your Steam game to the right of the "File version" item (see picture).
- Important: Steps 4 through 6 do not work with the shortcut that Steam created after an installation. Because this is just an internet link that allows Steam to start.
