Bypass Steam - is that possible?
Steam is an integral part of the gaming landscape. But not everyone is happy with the platform. Can Steam be bypassed if you want to play on a PC?
Bypass Steam - you need to know
Basically, you can also play on the PC and avoid Steam completely. However, you then have to do without numerous games, since these can not do without Steam.
- Many games use Steam as copy protection. To be able to start it, the Steam client must be installed on your PC. You also need to link the game to your user account. There is no legal way to bypass Steam.
- If you buy a game directly from the Steam online shop, you can be sure that you will need to install the Steam client to play it.
- Even if you buy a game in another online shop, it may have to be activated on Steam. If you do not want this, you should definitely pay attention to the relevant information on the shop page.
- Even many retail games require Steam. You can read on the packaging whether a game has to be activated on Steam.
- If you want to bypass Steam, you can switch to the distribution platforms Origin, uPlay or GOG. Games bought there will also run without Steam, but (apart from GOG) require their own client software. However, there are significantly fewer games on all three platforms than on Steam.
