Steam doesn't connect - what to do?
The Steam gaming platform often does not connect to the Steam servers. This can have several causes, which you can sometimes fix yourself. Read this practical tip to find out how the connection problems arise and what you can do about them.
Reconnect Steam to the server
- First of all, you should check if the Steam servers are malfunctioning. If this is the case, you cannot log in to Steam. The issteamdown.com page shows you whether the Steam servers are currently working.
- Steam shuts down its servers every Wednesday at 1 a.m. Central European Time for scheduled maintenance. This takes approximately 30 minutes.
- If Steam does not connect despite the server working, log in again. It often works on the second or third try.
- If Steam still doesn't connect after a few tries, check your internet connection and firewall. Your firewall may be blocking Steam and therefore unable to connect.
- If your internet connection works without problems and you still cannot log in, you should contact Steam Support.
