Tax return submitted on time: when will the refund finally come?
If you have submitted your tax return on time, you can usually expect a refund after a few weeks. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly when the time has come.
Tax return submitted: when will my refund come?
- As a rule, you will receive the refund on your account after 5 to 8 weeks after submitting the tax return. Processing times vary depending on the federal state.
- If you expect the money urgently, you should check with the tax office after 10 to 12 weeks. If nothing happens after 6 months, you can send a so-called inaction objection.
- If the reimbursement is not so important to you, you can also hope that the tax office does nothing. From the 15th month after the end of the tax year, the reimbursement will bear interest of 0.5 percent for each additional month.
Submit your tax return: this will help you get your refund faster
- Employers, insurance companies and other institutions have until the end of February to submit all relevant data to the tax authorities. For this reason, the processing of tax returns is usually only started.
- The tax returns are processed in the order in which they are received by the tax office. So if you send the papers faster, you can also expect a refund sooner.
- The deadline for filing the tax return is always May 31st. Since many explanations are only sent at the last minute, you should send your data as early as possible in April for the fastest possible processing.
