Stiftung Warentest: Ebook reader in the 2015 test
Related Videos: E-Book-Reader Test der Stiftung Warentest (April 2024).
Stiftung Warentest is reviewing eight ebook readers in 2015, including the new Kindle Voyage and the new Tolino reader. We summarize the results and show who the tops and flops from the ebook reader test.
Product test winner: Amazon beats Amazon
As in the product test for Ebooks 2013, Amazon gets the best mark and can even improve its test mark with the latest Kindle:
- Amazon's Kindle Voyage beats all ebook readers in the test and secures first place with a grade of 1.4.
- Amazon is particularly impressive when it comes to handling: The books are clearly arranged, bookmarks can be set and called up intuitively. The full-text search as well as the buying and loading of new books also work very easily.
- The display is particularly high-resolution and bright, but this does not cause any problems for the battery.
- Price: Wifi model approx. 180 euros / 3G model approx. 250 euros.
- Tip: The test winner from the pre-test offers slightly fewer functions, but is significantly cheaper: The Kindle Paperwhite only costs around 99 euros.
Goods test second: Amazon alternative Tolino Vision 2
Tolino has also improved since the last test and brought a strong opponent to the market with the Tolino Vision 2. In the test, however, he has to surrender to the Amazon flagship and take second place in the overall ranking:
- With the Tolino Vision 2 you can read in the bathtub without hesitation: the reader is waterproof and easily survived the half-hour immersion test at a depth of one meter. The display quality is also excellent and is on par with Amazon's Voyage. Grade 1.5.
- The advantage of the Tolino Vision 2 compared to Amazon's readers: While Amazon's Kindle only accepts the in-house Amazon format, you can read books from numerous different ebook stores on the Tolino. The Tolino Vision 2 costs around 130 euros.

Conclusion: Amazon vs. Amazon
- While Warentest sees the new Kindle Voyage in first place, it is beaten by Kindle Paperwhite in the CHIP leaderboard. Not least because it is significantly cheaper at only 99 euros, without sacrificing any noteworthy functions.
- The Tolino Vision 2 is in third place in the top 5 and is a good alternative for people who do not want to use Amazon. However, it is slightly more expensive than 1st place.
- Tip: You can also read books from other stores on Kindle with a little trick.
