Stiftung Warentest: Thermomix has no chance against the competition

Stiftung Warentest tested the Thermomix and five other kitchen machines from 2015. The result: The miracle "Thermomix" disappointed - the reason is really embarrassing. In addition, three competitors are better and cheaper. Our test summary shows why Thermomix did so poorly and which models top the ranking.
Thermomix at Stiftung Warentest: A star disappointed his fans
Attention Thermomix fans: At the Stiftung Warentest, the all-round kitchen machine only took fourth place and received a "satisfactory" rating. The reason is shameful:
- The Thermomix TM5 is actually a great device: It can be cleaned best of all models in the test and is also ahead with instructions and recipes.
- Its touch display is perfect for guided cooking: the food processor clearly guides you through the Thermomix recipes and weighs the ingredients itself. Goulash, cream of asparagus soup and chocolate pudding work best in the test, as do pureeing and kneading the dough.
- The minestrone and the meat were not successful. The experts also criticize the lack of a keep-warm function. You have to accept such small drawbacks with every device.
- The big drawback: The Thermomix is damn loud. It emits 91 decibels while stirring water - about four times as loud as a washing machine when spinning. Especially when cooking for a longer time (1.5 hours for goulash) this is too uncomfortable in the long run. Grade: 2.9.
Three Thermomix competitors do better in the goods test
With a grade of 2.4 ("good"), three kitchen machines are on par and thus well ahead of the Thermomix:
- The Kenwood KM096 is about 200 euros cheaper than the Thermomix and cooked a presentable Minestrone in the test. The cream is also better than the Thermomix.
- However, there is a slightly worse rating when it comes to handling: cleaning is a little easier with the Thermomix and the integrated recipes save you time. In addition, the keep warm function is also missing on the Kenwood.

Stiftung Warentest: KitchenAid better than Thermomix
- The KitchenAid Cooking Processor ARTISAN boasts the best asparagus cream soup and can even chop meat and almonds. That doesn't work so well with the other models.
- Small drawbacks: the minestrone and whipped cream are disappointing. In addition, you cannot weigh the ingredients.
- A big plus: KitchenAid keeps your food warm, but costs around 1, 000 euros.

- At just under 700 euros, the Krups Prep & Cook kitchen machine is the cheapest Thermomix competitor.
- Except for whipping cream, the kitchen helper can be used for almost any dish: soup, pudding, goulash, dough - everything works pretty well.
- Only the cleaning does not work as easily as with the Thermomix and you still have to weigh yourself with the Krups.
