Stiftung Warentest: tumble dryer with heat pump in the test
In the 08/13 issue, the Stiftung Warentest tested economical tumble dryers with heat pumps from Miele, Siemens, Bosch and Co. 12 condensation dryers with a pump were tested - one product failed "deficient". We present the tops and flops of the test in this article.
Tumble test winner: Siemens, Miele and Bosch with top marks
Three heat pump dryers land at the top of the overall ranking:
- The Siemens dryer "WT47Y701" not only has low power consumption, but is also particularly easy to use. He thus secured an overall "GOOD" (1.9) from the product test experts. Price about 750 euros.
- Competitor Bosch gets the same grade - no surprise: the dryer WTY87701 is identical in construction to the Siemens test winner. Price: approx. 735 euros.
- With a slightly smaller capacity, Miele's high-priced T8857WP EcoComfort also made it to the top. There were pluses for the result of "drying the cupboard" and the condensate drain. Price about 1300 euros.

However, other devices were convincing in terms of energy efficiency and pure drying performance:
- The Beko DPU 8306 GXE (price approx. 800 euros) and the Blomberg model TKF 8456 AGE 63 (price approx. 850 euros) made the best impression when drying.
- With a sub-rating of 1.6, the two devices did best here, but disappointed in terms of security and workmanship.
- Both devices are also characterized by low power consumption - and not only protect the environment, but also your wallet.
- Overall, however, the two dryers are only in the middle of the 6th and 7th place (grade 2.1).
Failed: Gorenje dryer with safety deficiencies
- The dryer D-7665-N from the Slovenian manufacturer Gorenje disappointed in terms of safety.
- The official standard specifies a closing force of the dryer door of max. 70 newtons. In the goods test, this was exceeded - a child could not press open the dryer door from the inside on his own.

Background: tumble dryer with and without a heat pump
- Heat pump dryers are a further development of conventional condensation dryers and are somewhat more expensive. But they also work much more energy-efficiently:
- Fresh air is heated to dry on the warm side of the pump, and water vapor condenses on the cold side. So almost no heat is lost and you can save up to 50 percent on electricity costs. Read more about energy efficiency here.
