Stiftung Warentest: WLAN speakers tested
In the November 2014 edition, Stiftung Warentest had to face twelve WLAN speakers and prove themselves from jazz and orchestras to radio plays. In the end, however, neither the most expensive nor the cheapest product was at the top. We show in the test summary which speaker leads the ranking.
Product test winner: WLAN speakers from Teufel with the best listening pleasure
"Quality has its price" also applies to the speakers, but the test winner comes from the mid-price segment:
- The Teufel Raumfeld Cube (price approx. 500 euros) leads the product test ranking with a grade of 1.7 ("good").
- In the hearing test, the sound system convinced sovereignly and was the only speaker in the "Sound" category to secure the coveted "Very Good". The delivery includes two boxes (connected by cable), so that a good stereo effect can be heard.
- Music can be played via USB connection and WLAN, but not via Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay, the testers complained.
WLAN speakers: versatility miracle but more expensive - the 2nd place
- For the runner-up Sony SRS-X9 you have to put an impressive 620 euros on the table, but you can use the speaker via WiFi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay, DLNA and NFC.
- In the hearing test, however, the Sony speaker did not quite get close to the Teufel sound specialist, and noise also occasionally causes the device to work, according to Warentest. Overall, however, it was enough for a grade of 1.8.
The cheapest speakers are "good" but in the last places
- The Sonos Play 1 lands with the grade 2.4 on the penultimate place. The reason for this is the "narrow-track sound" and that music can only be played via a WiFi connection. Price about 190 euros.
- The Pure Jongo TV takes last place and does not get beyond the mark 2.5 ("good"). Here, too, the testers criticized the mediocre sound quality and the coupling of the second speaker only worked "unreliably".
- Reasonable WiFi speakers are also available for less than 150 euros: We have selected three bargains from the WiFi speakers for you.

For even better sound: top sound bars for the living room
You can only get an even better sound than with the product test winners with a good soundbar. There is no big price difference:
- The CHIP leaderboard tops the Canton DM 90 soundbar, with which you can bring a lot of bass and a balanced sound into your home. Price about 600 euros.
- It is even cheaper with the previous model Canton DM 8 for around 200 euros. However, this does not have digital inputs, so the easiest way to stream the music on the TV. Other solutions are possible via an adapter.
