Photographing food is all the rage. However, you may face a fine if you photograph dishes in restaurants and then post them on social media.
Social media - punishment for posting food
If the food in front of you looks particularly appealing, it is tempting to take a few photos quickly and publish them on social media.
- If you are enthusiastically taking pictures of the dishes in front of you, it may happen that you are addressed unexpectedly. Not all restaurants value photography and, above all, the subsequent posting of food in the social networks.
- You may be politely but definitely asked to refrain from taking pictures. In such a case, you should definitely comply with the request. Failure to do so can have serious consequences for you.
- The restaurant owner has the house right, so he can refer you to the restaurant if necessary. What is worse, however, is that if you illegally post the photos of the food on social media, it can be really expensive for you.
- The rights to the creations of the dishes and the recipes for the food are subject to copyright protection. This means that the illegally posted photos may cost a few hundred euros if the restaurant files a criminal complaint against you.
- Our tip: Take the request to refrain from taking photos, therefore, absolutely seriously. It is best if you ask friendly in advance whether you can post the delicious food. Most restaurants will have no objection to free advertising and you are on the safe side.
In our etiquette, we will tell you how much you should tip in the restaurant for everyday life.
