Penalties for overtaking right-wingers: You can expect that
Right-handed passers must face fines and fines. In Germany there is a right-hand drive requirement and therefore you have to overtake on the left. Read here what you can expect if you disregard this.
Penalties for right overtaking: You have to expect that
The road traffic regulation speaks clear words in paragraph 5: "It has to be overtaken on the left". Deviating from this can be expensive.
- There are only a few exceptions. This is the case, for example, on multi-lane roads with different directional lanes. If a vehicle is on the left-hand lane, you can of course drive past it on the straight-ahead lane or the right-hand lane. By the way, you should be considerate when changing lanes on the motorway.
- In the event of traffic jams or viscous traffic on the motorway, if the left lane is blocked, the right lane can be driven faster. This also applies if a vehicle column in the left lane only drives a maximum of 60 km / h.
- Other exceptions are the acceleration lane on driveways on motorways and the deceleration lane on exits.
- In all other cases, overtaking on the right is not permitted. If you are caught doing this, you have to pay a fine of € 100 outside of town and receive a point in the central traffic register in Flensburg.
- It becomes even more expensive if you endanger others when overtaking. Then you will receive a fine of 120 euros in addition to a point. If you even build an accident, you have to pay 145 euros.
- The penalties are slightly lower in built-up areas. Here a fine of 30 euros will be charged. If you overtake on the right without permission and cause an accident, the penalty is 35 euros. There are no points in Flensburg in either case.
- The best thing to do is to strictly abide by the ban, even if there is supposedly no police around. If you overtake on the right, someone could write down your license plate and file a complaint.
You can also face fines if you miss the appointment for the main inspection. In another article we tell you what to expect when the TÜV has expired.
