Minimize radiation from baby monitors - how it works
A baby monitor gives parents security, but you should minimize the radiation from these devices as far as possible. Electrosmog is a growing problem.
Baby monitor: minimize radiation - these measures make sense
When choosing the baby monitor, you should pay attention to the radiation from the device, because where there is radio, there is also radiation. The best way to monitor babies would of course be a baby monitor that does not use radio. However, such devices are no longer available today.
- For this reason, you should choose a baby monitor that is as low in radiation as possible.
- These devices include analog radio baby monitors. They work much like a walkie-talkie. Here you have to accept that the transmission of the noise does not always work properly.
- The low-radiation models do not include all devices based on DECT technology that you are probably familiar with from your cordless telephone.
- These models offer better quality. They not only shine more than other technologies, but also continuously.
- This also applies if you use baby monitor apps. Then a smartphone lies next to the child, which also continuously sends out radio signals.
- Stiftung Warentest has taken on this topic. You can find out which devices did well in the baby monitor test in a separate article.
A few more tips for your child's health
You don't see, hear or feel radiation - but it is still there.
- If your baby monitor has a range control, it is best to switch it off. This check is only used to check whether the radio connection is still available. For this purpose, the device continuously sends signals.
- Place the unit of the baby monitor that your child should not monitor right next to your baby. The distance between the child and the device should be as large as possible.
- When buying a baby monitor, make sure that you choose a model with the lowest possible field intensity.
- If you use a smartphone in conjunction with a baby monitor app, pay attention to the SAR value. We will show you how to find out the SAR value of your mobile phone in a separate practical tip.
