Super Mario Maker: Before creating a level
- Take a close look at the title screen. There are many little secrets or Easter eggs hidden there. For example, tap on the individual letters of the Super Mario Maker logo and let yourself be surprised.
- You can also play a kind of mini demo in the background by moving the analog stick. A first indication that you should tap and try everything in this game if possible.
- In Editor mode, press the L-Stick or R-Stick to change the hand that follows your movements as you create a level. In addition to different skin tones, there are also some references to Nintendo characters.
- Memorize shortcuts to access certain elements faster and save time. You can use the shoulder buttons to select and copy things, for example.
General tips in Super Mario Maker
- Shake all possible objects to install new variants or completely new components: If you shake a green Koopa, it will become a red one. Almost every element has a secret.
- Use doors and tubes skillfully: Doors take the player to new locations in the level and can be placed a maximum of four times. Tubes, on the other hand, transport the player to the sublevel as soon as you have unlocked them. Think wisely which elements you place in your level.
- It's always good to build challenging levels, but be careful not to make your levels too difficult and frustrate the other players. Install pow-ups like mushrooms as a reward at certain points.
- Less is often more: avoid creating overloaded levels. The players should always keep an overview. The best levels often follow a topic with certain elements that recur in other variants.
Interact with other players
- Before you present your level to the players, test it enough. Will other players have fun with it? It is best to let friends play your work to determine which elements can still be changed and what you may have overlooked. Also read the comments you get from other players about your levels.
- Let yourself be inspired by the other players. Simply play as many different levels as possible and discover new elements or things that you particularly like and incorporate them into your future works.
- Of course, this does not mean that you should copy popular levels. Simply limit yourself to certain sections that inspire you and that you can imagine in a modified form in one of your levels.
