Super vectoring: what is it? Easily explained
In this article, we explain what super vectoring is and what it is used for. The new technology has now been expanded in some parts of Germany and ensures that you get faster internet.
Super vectoring: new technology with a lot of criticism
Super vectoring is the successor to vectoring. This technology developed by Telekom is used to achieve higher data rates in existing copper lines.
- In German households, the Internet is obtained almost everywhere from copper cables. These cables are very susceptible to electromagnetic interference and other influences. Vectoring massively reduces these disturbances.
- The fewer interferences, the higher data rates can be achieved. In the end, this means that you can get faster Internet in your home through vectoring and super-vectoring.
- Super vectoring only needs to be installed in the distribution boxes and does not require access to the house. This makes the technology very cheap because there is little fiber to lay.
- Telekom is currently expanding super-vectoring in Germany. There is a lot of criticism from the press and experts for this, because super-vectoring has two major problems.
- If super-vectoring is used on a line, this can only be offered by one provider. This is problematic because, by law, all providers in the Telekom network have to rent and be able to offer their services at the same time.
- The much bigger problem, however, is that Telekom is delaying the expansion of fiber optics by expanding super-vectoring. In the long term, this is bad, since the data rate of super vectoring could be exhausted in a few years.
Super vectoring: how to get it
You need a suitable contract for super vectoring.
- You can check whether super vectoring is available at your place of residence online at Telekom. If available, suitable contracts will be displayed.
- In addition to the contract, you also need a router that knows the technology. This is the case with the latest Telekom models and with selected AVM devices.
- If super-vectoring is not available at your location, you can check whether you can get wired internet. This offers even faster data rates and is also offered by providers other than Telekom.
