Remove SuperFish.com - Here's how
If you find SuperFish.com adware in your browser, you should remove it immediately. We show you how to do this.
Update: Delete SuperFish.com using the Lenovo tool
SuperFish has been preinstalled on some Lenovo notebooks, but the adware can also get to your computer in other ways. SuperFish actually only shows advertisements, but why this adware is so dangerous can be found in this CHIP article.
- You can check your computer for a SuperFish infection on the LastPass.com website. If the words "You are Safe!" Appear, you are not affected by the adware.
- However, if you are concerned, download the Lenovo Superfish Automatic Removal Tool and launch the file. Then a scan is performed and SuperFish.com is removed.
- If you still find SuperFish.com on your computer, follow the instructions in the following paragraphs.
Step 1: Exit and uninstall SuperFish.com
- Exit SuperFish: First open the Task Manager and switch to the "Processes" tab at the top. Find the "Visual Discovery" process here, right-click on it and select the "End Process" option.
- Uninstalling SuperFish: Open the Control Panel and select the "Uninstall a program" option under the "Programs" category. Look for "Superfish Visual Discovery" and uninstall the software.
Step 2: delete the SuperFish.com certificate
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "certmgr.msc" here and confirm with "OK". Then the certificate manager starts.
- Select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" category on the left and then the "Certificates" folder (see picture).
- Below you will find the "Superfish, Inc." certificate. Right-click on it and then select the "Delete" option.
- If you confirm the process, the certificate is removed from Windows.
Step 3: Remove Superfish.com completely
- AdwCleaner: The free AdwCleaner also removes the last remains of SuperFish. In many cases, the uninstallation does not completely stop the adware. Carry out the short scan and then remove all finds.
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: This extremely reliable virus scanner also checks your system for other malware. However, the use of SuperFish.com is not absolutely necessary.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to check individual files online for viruses.
