Surface 3: The tablet for bargain hunters
The cheaper version of the Surface 3 is also available in two versions. In addition to the price, these differ in terms of the size of the internal flash memory and the working memory. Both versions are also available with and without LTE.
- Display: The standard version of the Surface 3 offers a slightly higher resolution than Full HD. The 10.8-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3: 2.
- Weight: The 267 x 187 x 8.7 mm case has a total weight of 621 grams. With the keyboard plugged in, the tablet weighs 270 grams more.
- Processor: The tablet is powered by the quad-core Intel Atom x7-8700 (Cherry Trail), which achieves a clock frequency of up to 2.4 GHz with the Turbo Boost technology.
- Battery life: Microsoft promises a maximum battery life of 10 hours. However, this depends on how you use the tablet.
- Version: The Surface 3 is available in two different versions. The version with 64 GB internal flash memory and 2 GB RAM is available for 599 euros. You can only use 37 GB of the 64 GB of storage. If you need more memory, you get the 128 GB variant with 4 GB RAM for 719 euros. For LTE you have to expect a surcharge of 150 to 200 euros.
The tablet for demanding users: Surface Pro 3
The Surface Pro 3 is aimed more at demanding jobs such as video and complex graphics editing. This is particularly noticeable in the significantly higher price and performance.
- Display: The display of the Pro variant has a larger and higher-resolution display than its little brother Surface 3. With a diagonal of 12 inches and a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels, it is particularly well suited for graphic programs.
- Weight: The larger display measures 292.1 x 201.4 x 9.1 mm. On the scales, the Surface Pro 3 is a bit heavier at 800 grams.
- Processor: Depending on the version, an Intel® Core ™ i3-4020Y (1.5 GHz), an i5-4300U (2.9 GHz) or an i7-4650U (3.3 GHz) are used as the processor.
- Cost: The Surface Pro 3 is available in five different versions: 64GB / Intel i3 / 4GB RAM for 849 euros; 128GB / Intel i5 / 4GB RAM for 1099 euros; 256GB / Intel i5 / 8GB RAM for 1449 euros; 256GB / Intel i7 / 8GB RAM for 1799 euros and 512GB / Intel i7 / 8GB RAM for 2149 euros.
- Battery life: Due to the higher performance, the tablet has to be plugged in again after 9 hours at the latest.
- Special features: In contrast to the cheaper model, the Surface 3 Pro has a continuously adjustable stand on the back.
