In this practical tip, we explain what a swap partition is.
What is a swap partition?
Swap means among other things also "exchange", in this case it concerns the exchange of data.
- All active programs on a computer are stored in the working memory, if possible, so that they can be accessed quickly.
- However, if you only have a little RAM in your computer and too many programs open, these are swapped out to the so-called swap partition of the hard disk. On Windows, the swap partition is also known as a "swap file".
- However, moving the data back and forth unnecessarily takes time and slows down the computer, so it is always worthwhile to provide the computer with enough RAM.
