Search SWIFT code - how it works
If you transfer money abroad or have to fill out a SEPA form, you need the so-called SWIFT code. If you do not have this, you can find the easiest ways to find out the code in this article.
SWIFT code: definition and tasks
The SWIFT code is also called SWIFT-BIC or colloquially BIC code. It is an international identifier of the respective payment service provider, it must be specified next to the IBAN for cross-border transactions.

How to find the BIC / SWIFT you are looking for
The easiest way is to use a so-called online calculator. Simply enter the name of the bank here.
- Scroll down on the IBAN calculator homepage and look for the entry block "International bank sort code and BIC search" (see picture).
- Now enter the country of origin of the bank details you are looking for and the bank name and click on "Search". Entering the bank sort code is optional if you have one.
- In the next window you will find the SWIFT code you are looking for.
How to search for a SWIFT code using the IBAN
If you would like to transfer abroad, this is only possible with the international SWIFT code. If you don't have this, you can easily find it out using the IBAN.
- Look for the heading "Check / add IBAN" on this link.
- Enter the respective IBAN in the text field and select "Check IBAN and search for BIC code".
- Now a new page opens, under the heading "Result" you will find the BIC you are looking for.
