Find Synology in the network - how it works
To set up and use your Synology NAS, you must first find it on the network. We show you how to do it here.
Find Synology in the network using a wizard
Synology provides a wizard to help you find your NAS system on the network.
- First turn on your Synology NAS.
- Open your web browser and type //find.synology.com.
- The wizard will now search your network. This can take several minutes.
- As soon as the network storage has been found, you can log in to your NAS device by clicking on "Connection".
Detect Synology manually on the network
In rare cases, the assistant will not find what you are looking for. As a result, Synology will offer you software for download. Proceed as follows:
- Click on "Synology Assistant" and select your device type and model in the download center.
- Download the current version of the "Synology Assistant" software and the NAS operating system "DiskStation Manager".
- In the next step install the "Synology Assistant" and start the software.
- The program now finds your device and prompts you to install the operating system.
- Click "Browse" and navigate to the folder where you saved "DiskStation Manager". Open the PAT file.
- Then click "Next" and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Once the installation is complete, go to //find.synology.com again in the browser. The NAS system is now found and you can continue with the setup via "Connect".
After you've set up your NAS, we'll show you how to back up your data using Synology Cloud Station Backup.
