Synology: set up media server - how it works
Before you can use the Synology media server on the NAS, you need to set it up. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly how to do this.
Synology: How to set up the media server
- First start the NAS as usual and log in. In the main menu click on "Media Server" below.
- On the left side select "General Settings" and then click on "Network Interface".
- Here you have to select the used network interface from the list. In most cases you have to select "LAN 1".
- Then select the preferred language and set the menu style.
- Save the changes by clicking on "Apply". Wait for the changes to be saved.
- In the menu item "Search Settings" you can determine how the media data should be found in the cloud or NAS.
- If you have so-called DMA devices that want to access the NAS, you have to specify this under "DMA compatibility".
- Tip: To create another folder, go to "Control Panel"> "Media Indexing" in the main menu and click on "Create" under "Indexed Folder". You can then choose where to create the folder and what types of media to save there.
