Synology: connect network drive - so it'll work
If you want to set up your new Synology NAS comprehensively, you should connect the device to your PC as a network drive. How to access all important files on your NAS with Explorer.
Connect Synology NAS as a network drive - Here's how
- Open Explorer, click "This PC" and then press "Map Network Drive" at the top.
- Now you can enter any drive letter for the network drive. If you leave the field blank, Windows will assign a random letter to your NAS.
- Next, enter the path to your share. To do this, type "\\" followed by the name of your Synology, then again "\" and the name of the folder. So if your Synology is called "DikStation" and your shared folder is called "Photos", you have to type "\\ DiskStation \ Photos".
- Then click on "Finish" and enter your login information. Note that the user used must have access rights to the folder.
- Now you can use your Synology. In the Explorer, the NAS is displayed under "This PC" and the corresponding drive letter.
