System images are important if the operating system stops working. This article shows you how to create these backups under Windows 8.1.
Create system image with Windows standard tools
Windows can inherently create system images. In version 8.1, this function is hidden. However, you do not have to do without the system images.
- Open the Control Panel and select the "System and Security" category.
- Decide on the "File Version History" category and click on "System Image Backup" in the lower left.
- Here you can choose whether you want to save the backup on a hard disk, several DVDs or on a network address.
- Click on "Next" and on the "Start backup" button. This saves the system image.
- Note: Depending on the size of your computer's data and performance, the backup can take several minutes to hours.
Create system image with software
- Alternatively, you can simply use the Clonezilla tool.
- Note: You have to burn the downloaded image file onto a blank with a burning software. Then boot from the CD to start the freeware.
In the event of a system failure, it is necessary to restore the system image. You need a recovery drive for this. Another practical tip will show you how to create a recovery drive in Windows 8.1.
