T-Online: Email is not working - what to do?
If your T-Online email service is not working, it may be that Telekom is currently converting to SSL encryption in this area. Therefore you have to take action. We'll show you what to do.
Configure T-Online POP3 inbox correctly
To receive your mails securely via SSL in the future, you only need to change a few addresses and ports. Otherwise you may no longer be able to receive mails at all. We use Thunderbird as an example to show you how to proceed:
- Right-click on the affected account and select "Settings". You can also follow important steps in the picture gallery.
- Go to the "Server Settings" on the left. Now it comes down to the "Server type" field. If it says "POP", you are correct in this section. If it says "IMAP", go to the second section.
- It continues with the field "Server": If it says "securepop.t-online.de" and port "995" is set, then your mails are already encrypted. You can then stop at that point.
- If "popmail.t-online.de" is there, you have to make new settings: Enter "995" for port. Select "SSL / TLS" as connection security. You must select "Password, normal" as the authentication method.
- In the case of "pop.t-online.de" enter the address "securepop.t-online.de" on the server. Otherwise, choose the same settings as in step four.
- Now switch to the menu item "Outgoing mail server" on the left. Left-click on the correct account and then press "Edit". If your POP3 address was previously "popmail.t-online.de", enter "smtpmail.t-online.de" in "Server". The correct port is "465". The values from step four apply to the remaining fields.
- If your address was "pop.t-online.de" before, the only difference to step six is the new address. This is "securesmtp.t-online.de". You can apply the remaining settings.
Fit for SSL - the right IMAP settings
In contrast to POP3, IMAP means that your emails are only managed on the server side. The messages are therefore not saved locally. You also have to make new settings here. Fortunately, you don't have to distinguish between two variants here:
- You do not have to change the address behind the "Server" item. Now set the port "993" in the field behind.
- The correct setting in the next point is "SSL / TLS". Leave the authentication method at "Password, normal".
- Now switch to "Outgoing mail server" in the tree structure on the left. Select the T-Online account and then press "Edit".
- As with the incoming mail server, set "SSL / TLS" as the connection security here. The correct port is "465". Again, the authentication method is "password, normal". Now you only have to confirm with "OK".
You also have to make new settings at Web.de so that you can receive mails via SSL-secured connections in the future.
