Close tab: keyboard shortcut for all browsers
No matter whether you use Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera or another browser, the key combinations are essentially the same for all programs. This also applies to the shortcut with which you close the active tab.
- To do this, press the key combination [Ctrl] + [W] or alternatively [Ctrl] + [F4] under Windows.
- Mac users use the shortcut [CMD] + [W] or [CMD] + [F4].
- Tip: If you want to close not only the active tab but all open tabs in a window, use the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [W] or under MacOS [CMD] + [Alt] + [W].
In addition to this key combination, there are many other shortcuts on all browsers. We have compiled the most important keyboard commands for Google Chrome and for Mozilla Firefox in separate articles for you.
